Our Preschool & Children's Ministry is a safe, welcoming place where little hearts can grow in their love for Jesus. Our newly renovated children's area provides a bright, clean, and engaging environment designed with your child in mind. We offer secure check-in procedures, giving parents peace of mind while they worship. Our friendly, caring teachers and volunteers are passionate about sharing God's Word through age-appropriate Bible lessons, fun activities, music, games, and crafts. We look forward to partnering with your family as we help children build a strong foundation of faith.

Class changes occur every September, so don't worry about your child moving up on their birthday. Our wonderful staff makes all the class transitions at the same time so as not to confuse the kids and keep everything as organized as possible for safety.

Melody Gaston, Rachel Rigsby, and Karen Gingerich work together to oversee the ministry, support our teachers and volunteers, and ensure that every area runs smoothly. Their shared heart is to provide a place where families feel welcomed, children are loved, and Christ is honored in everything we do.

Rachel was born and raised in Chapel Hill, where she was also born into Smyrna Baptist Church. She is married to Paul Rigsby and has 1 son named Ramsey. She is a Licensed Esthetician and works at XOXO Hair Co. in Chapel Hill.
She has attended SBC her entire life. Rachel accepted Jesus and was baptized when she was 16.

Tammy grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan, and moved to Chapel Hill in August 1990. She works for Youth Villages as an Office Manager. She has been married to her husband, Jim Horvath, for 33 years. She has 1 son, Zach, and 1 daughter, Alyssa. Zach is married to Tayler, and they have 3 children. Avery, Jackson, and Cooper. Alyssa attends UAH in Huntsville and expects to graduate in May 2027. Tammy loves to garden and camp. “I love being outside!”
She has attended Smyrna Baptist Church for about 10 years. She accepted Jesus as her savior at a youth conference when she was 13.

Jennifer was born and raised in Chapel Hill. She attended Forrest High School in the class of 1992. She is currently the librarian at Chapel Hill Elementary School and will be entering her 31st year in education this fall. She also spent time in the classroom as a 3rd grade teacher. She has been married to Chris Lynch for 28 years and has 2 kids with him: daughter Mary Elise, 24, and son Ty, 19. She loves the beach and spending time with her family and friends.
Jennifer has spent her whole life at Smyrna Baptist Church, accepting Christ at age 12.

Melody Gaston
Melody Gaston
Melody was born and raised in Eastern Pennsylvania. She has been married to Pastor Eldon since November 2001, and together they have three sons: Joshua, Caleb, and Mark. The Gaston family has called Middle Tennessee home since December 2023 and has grown to love the community and the people.
Melody serves as the Office Manager for Assisted Living Locators of East Columbus and South Nashville and has been involved in children's ministry since she was old enough to help in the church nursery. Her love for children began at a young age, and she has always had a passion for sharing the love of Jesus with them.
She is thankful for the opportunity to teach the 4th and 5th grade Sunday School class and considers it a privilege to help children grow in their faith, understand God's Word, and build a personal relationship with Christ.
